Cocaine Bear, is it worth seeing?

Updated: Aug 5, 2023

Cocaine Bear has gotten a lot of attention due to it's sensational title and idea as a whole. In fact, Cocaine bear even beat Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania at the box office on it's opening weekend. Albeit the 3rd Ant-Man sequel was on it's second weekend. Nonetheless, it is a till a massive feat to beat a Marvel movie even on it's second weekend, and possibly a wake up call to marvel as well. But, is the Elizabeth Banks film really worth the watch?

Review

"Cocaine Bear is simply a fun, ridiculous and horrifying movie. "

The characters are surprisingly fleshed out and there is a good balance between the human stories, the humor, and the bear absolutly murdering people. If you enjoy ridiculous horror comedies this movie will not disappoint. In my opinion the violence was a little jarring at times and I would've liked if it was toned down a little bit. However, overall it was an enjoyable movie.

It is definitely worth the watch for any horror comedy fans. Although a date is unknown, the movie is anticipated to be streaming on Peacock, NBCs streaming service, so, if you are not rushing to see the movie and have a peacock subscription I would recommend just waiting until streaming. This movie isn't like a Marvel movie where there will be big spoilers floating around. Even if it was spoiled I don't think it would ruin the movie.

Post Credits

There are two post credit scenes which play very shortly after the credits roll. Both are fun scenes which do actually add to the ending of the story, especially the second one. I would recommend staying especially because there really isn't a wait, they play only a few seconds into the credits.

Box Office

Cocaine Bear has grossed just over $58 million worldwide. The movie made a sizable $23 million domestically in its opening weekend. With a budget of only $30 million the movie can definitely not be called a flop.

Note

I would also like to note that I review movies based on what they are trying to be. For example, although I gave Cocaine Bear a higher score than Ant Man 3, I actually enjoyed Ant-Man 3 More. However, Ant-Man 3 was trying to be a huge event Marvel film, which it didn't quite live up to. On the other hand, Cocaine Bear was simply trying to be a fun, terrifying and ridiculous movie, which it achieved.
