MCU Title Joins the List of Casualties From Disney’s Content Purge

What was removed?

A MCU title has recently joined the list of removed titles from Disney+ and Hulu. This comes as a surprise since the previous list did not seem to contain any titles from large franchises and this removal comes with little notice. The removed title in question is Marvel's Runaways. Although not a super popular title is still has a dedicated fan base behind it as well as taking place in the MCU. It had multiple references to the MCU throughout the series and even had a crossover with Cloak and Dagger. The show also featured the same darkhold as Agents of Sheild.

What does this mean?

This removal has many Marvel TV fans worried that this could set a precedent for any one of the other Marvel television shows to be next on the chopping block. Even worse, Runaways was never released on DVD so the only way to currently watch the series is to purchase it digitally. Although, admittedly, the removal makes sense from a business standpoint, some fans are justifiably outraged. We can only hope that Runaways remains the only MCU causality of this purge.

Why was it removed?

Disney lost more than 120 Billion dollars last year, yes Billion with a B. That's even more than In 2020 during Covid. It is also the most they have lost in 50 years. After former president Bob Chapek was fired last year Bob Iger took the reins once again. He was tasked with making the company more profitable again. One way to help with this is removing less popular series and movies from their streaming platforms Disney+ and Hulu. There is also a plan to merge the two platforms. Runaways apparently did not meet the popularity threshold to be making them money.
